KAMPALA - Police at Old Kampala police station have arrested and detained a 29-year old-man who is said to have stabbed his elder brothers’ child to death.

The district police commander (DPC) Julius Gobolo identified the suspect as Noah Ssegantebuka, who is also known as Moses Ziraba.

He is a resident of Mapeera Zone-Lugala in Rubaga division, Kampala.

Gobolo told New Vision Online that Anthony Ssekisambu, 31, left his two children with his brother [the accused] before heading to work in Kampala.

One of them was 8-year-old Andrew Ssekalega, who was killed. Their father is said to have separated with the mother.

On his way to Kampala last Saturday morning, Ssekisambu’s 12-year-old son called him and told him their uncle had killed his younger brother, Gobolo narrated.

He rushed back home to the scene of neighbours gathered at his place. When he entered the room, he found blood oozing out of his dying son’s neck, the police commander went on.

Upon this grisly discovery, a heartbroken Ssekismabu was advised by residents at the scene to report the matter to Police.

A case No CRB 078/2013 was opened up at Lungujja police station, and a hunt for the killer was mounted before he was finally intercepted at around 6.30pm later that evening in Nansana.

Some neighbours said they saw the former prisoner washing his blood-stained hands, before vanishing.

They said they did not know what had just happened until the older child ran out, crying that his uncle had killed his brother.

The young boy said that after his father had left for work, with money for lunch as he usually does, their murderous uncle forced them into a room. But he said he managed to escape from his grip and ran out.

The survivor said that when he kept peeping through a slit in the door, he saw his uncle pick a sharp knife (right) and force it into the throat of Ssekalega.

“My brother shouted once and blood started oozing out of his throat. I was very scared and I feared to make noise as I thought I would be the next. I saw my uncle move out in the neighborhood, washed blood off his hands before he ran away.”

The father to the deceased reported to police that his younger brother is a former convict at Luzira where he had spent four years.

He was just fresh from prison at the time of the crime.

The accused came out of jail to nowhere to sleep. So he asked his elder brother for shelter, temporarily, as he sketched his next move.

Ssekisambu said he let his brother in thinking he had reformed during his incarceration.

By press time, police was taking Ssegantebuka to the Government Analytical Laboratories (GAL) for a scheduled mental check-up.

DPC Gobolo said that they have preferred murder charges against the suspect as they wait for advice from the DPP.
