JAS Mangat’s quest to capture the Uganda and Kenya national championships got off to a shaky start having been dogged by multiple punctures in the KCB Kajiado Rally in Nairobi on Sunday.

Mangat lost close to 20 minutes minutes early in the race, dropping to 15th position in the open round of the Kenya national championship.

The Air Uganda sponsored Mangat battled his way back and finished seventh in the event that had only 30 finishers out of 55 crews.

National champion Carl Tundo dropped out of the race early while another hot contender Alestair Cavanagh skipped the race due to personal commitments which eases Mangat’s worries.

Baldev Chager won the race with Ian Duncan finishing second while Azar Anwar grabbed the third podium place.

Mangat now shifts focus to the Mbarara Rally. He is permitted to score points both in Uganda and Kenya following the amendment of competition rules.
