UPDF soldier jailed 35 years over manslaughter

KAMPALA – A UPDF soldier, Lance Corporal Herbert Rwakihembo has been handed a 35-year jail sentence after being convicted of manslaughter.

The army General Court Martial sitting in Luzira handed Rwakihembo 30 years for each of the three counts and 5 years over attempted murder be served concurrently.

That means the army man will have to spend a total of 35 years behind bars.

Court found Rwakihembo guilty of murdering three women including his wife Irene Kawendeke by shooting using an AK 47 sub machine gun.

Rwakihembo, attached to Luzira Military barracks committed the offence at Kisenyi zone III in Luzira, Nakawa Municipality in Kampala on December 10, 2012 at around 7:45pm.
