FUFA has confirmed receiving $15000 (sh41m) from CECAFA to off-load part of its debts incurred to service providers at the 2012 Senior Challenge Cup last December.

The CECAFA local organising committee headed by FUFA vice president Moses Magogo reported earlier that they made a loss of sh250m from the Challenge Cup after many fans shunned the event.

He said yesterday: “Yes, CECAFA has remitted the balance of $15000. We will not be able to pay every debt but we shall do everything not to abrogate the understanding with our partners.”

Although CECAFA forfeited their entire share from gate collections to FUFA, the organisers still incurred losses after the gatherings only grossed sh500m.

Magogo could not disclose, who the federation is indebted to, but insisted that all the debts would be cleared by end of the financial year.

East Africa Breweries, under their Tusker brand, announced a $450,000 (sh1.3b) for the three-week event in Kampala.

The package covered teams’ accommodation, feeding and air travels among others.

A total of $60,000 went towards prize money with the winners taking $30,000, the runners up $20,000 and $10,000 for the third placed.
