BIG things await Jackson Kiprop on his return after winning the Standard Chartered sponsored Mumbai Marathon with a new record on Sunday.

Kiprop also took the winner’s purse of $40,000 and the course record bonus of $15,000.

But this will not be all for the Prisons warder who only made his debut in the full marathon in the Sunday victory.

According to publicist Frank Baine, the Prisons Authority management was yesterday holed up in a meeting to plan for the athlete’s return and also consider how best to reward him. Baine did not rule out a promotion for the 26-year old.

“We are looking for ways of rewarding him and of course promotion is one of them. For us in Prisons we think this is one way of accounting to the society and to show that actually what they saw of Kiprotich was not a one-off,” Baine said.

It all started with Stephen Kiprotich after winning gold at the 2012 Olympic marathon medal. Kiprotich jumped from nothing to Assistant Supretendant of Prisons (ASP).

Kiprop (No. 8358) joined the service in 2005 and is currently a corporal stationed at the training school at Luzira Maximum Security prison.

While promoting Kiprotich, the Prisons boss Dr. Johnson Byabashaija promised promotion for any warder who happens to win anything at international level.

“The Mumbai marathon is one of the top world marathons. So l am sure that Kiprop will also get an award that fits the level of his achievement,” Baine said.
