The First Deputy Prime Minister Eriya Kategeya is responding well to medication in Nairobi Hospital where he is undergoing treatment.

Gov't has made it clear that Kategaya, who is also Minister for East African Affairs, is alive.

“Honorable Kategeya is not dead. He is alive. I have talked to the doctors and his family members who reported good progress,” Information and National guidance minister Mary Karooro Okurut said on Wednesday.

Her statemenrt followed false reports, mainly rippling across social media, that the minister had died.

In a statement released Tuesday, Government said Kategaya "is in stable condition and responding well to medication."

Kategaya felt unwell over the weekend. After consultations with his personal doctors, he was advised to shift to Nairobi Hospital where he is currently under doctor's observations.
