Government has declared January 30 a public holiday as NRM celebrates its 27th anniversary.

The announcement was made Tuesday by the Information and National guidance minister Mary Karooro Okurut at a news conference in Kampala.

“The postponement has been occasioned by the fact that Saturday 26th January 2013 was not a suitable date for some of the state guests expected for the event. We expect delegations from several counties to grace the occasion. Egypt and the Democratic Republic of Congo have confirmed sending delegations and details from other countries will be made available during the course of this week,” the minister said.

The celebrations held annually on January 26 were postponed to 30.

The 27th NRM/NRA Anniversary, to be presided over by President Yoweri Museveni, will be hosted at Nyakasanga grounds, Nyamwamba division, in Kasese Municipality.

The day will be celebrated under the theme: “Lessons from Our History: NRM’s Commitment to Create a Better Future for Uganda”.

Karooro said owing to the changes, district celebrations are also postponed and the district leaders are advised to hold their celebrations either on 30th January 2013 or thereafter.
