City businessman Desh Kananura has denied his alleged involvement in the murder of his employee, Badru Kateregga, at his Panamera Bar and Restaurant in Naguru.
Kananura, who is the prime suspect in the case together with three others, is alleged to have tortured Kateregga to death over a sh30,000 tip he got from customers last October.
Other suspects are Cyrus Maganda, Samuel Muzulewa and Jacob Onyango.
The three were charged with murder and granted court bail.
Kananura is alleged to have fled to Dubai following the incident to elude arrest, a claim he denies.
“I never eluded Police arrest as they claim. I travelled to Kenya, Dubai and UK on my normal business trips. I was surprised when the Police arrested me at the airport on my return, linking me to the murder,” he said.
Kananura made the comments while at the scene of crime where he had been taken by Police to reconstruct the series of events that transpired that night.
He said Kateregga was beaten by fellow colleagues at work.
“I just realised when his fellow workers pounced on Kateregga and started beating him before I called in the Police to come to his rescue,” he added.
Deputy police spokesperson Vincent Ssekate told New Vision that Kananura had recorded a statement and is expected to appear in court today.
He said Kananura was still under detention at the Special Investigations Unit in Kireka.
Ssekate said Kananura was last week charged with murder in his absentia after defying criminal summons and his file was already in court.
