Florence Nebanda Andiru, the elder sister to fallen MP Cerinah Nebanda, is now the NRM flagbearer for the Butaleja by-election due next month.

The seat fell vacant following the death of her sister which drew a flurry of public debate last year.

Cerinah Nebanda died mid-December under unclear circumstances, before a government report on her death was produced.

The elder Nebanda will now tussle it with other party or independent candidates for the main by-election that will be held on February 11.

She beat five other contestants in the Friday NRM primaries for the party ticket.

Her victory comes after she changed her name from Florence Andiru to Florence Nebanda Andiru.

The Electoral Commission (EC) at the start of this year issued a program for a by-election to fill the vacant seat.
