PRESIDENTIAL candidate Eddie Okilla has described the re-election of Sadiq Nasiwu as illegitimate and he wants the exercise repeated.

Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF) went to polls on Sunday where Nasiwu won a second term but his rival Okilla accused the presiding officer Daniel Okwee and his team of Zeddie Muzungu and Florence Nakamya of allowing irregular subscribers to vote.

Okwee declared Nasiwu (72 votes) president after beating Okilla. Okilla, who only managed three votes has since insisted that he pulled out of the exercise on realising illegal delegates were going to vote.

“Pretty many of the delegates who attended the elective congress, were appearing for the first time in four years and do not regularly affiliate; they affiliate only in election year with the help of the incumbent aiding them financially,” Okilla argued.

But Nasiwu has invited Okilla to join him to spearhead development of the game in Uganda. “I’m ready to work with him (Okilla). If he is ready too, he should write a development proposal which I will present to the rest of the executive for adoption or implementation,” Nasiwu said.

Among Nasiwu’s plans for the next four years is popularising volleyball across the country as opposed to the current concentration in Kampala, and strengthening the technical wing of the federation with more coaches and referees. 

Sponsorship has also continued to trouble the federation and Nasiwu said that searching for funders will be a deliberate task during his second term in office.
