PLANS for the 2013 season opening Mbarara rally will move to another level following a call for crews to register their machines.

Clerk of Course David Nsobya, said the registration will start in Kampala next Friday.

“We hope to be through with the registration process by the end of the month (January),” Nsobya said.

The exercise will set the stage for the Federation of Motorsport Uganda (FMU) competition scheduled for

February 8-10.

The national championship event will start with scrutineering execrice at Shell Buddu, Masaka before more action the following day.

Last week, FMU cautioned crews to ensure maximum safety precautions this season.

Meanwhile, Mbarara Motor Club (MMC) officials embarked on a process of designing a new route for the race last week.

MMC secretary Lillian Busingye ruled out a repeat of route that was used last season, arguing that it would encourage laziness among competitors.

The opening race of the championship is normally a major attraction for competitors and spectators.

National champion Jas Mangat is expected to lead the search for honours.

He could face his old rivals including former title winner Nasser Mutebi, Ponsiano Lwakataka Ronald Ssebuguzi and Duncan Mubiru.
