AS teams intensify preparation for the Nile Special Rugby League that will start in Kampala on January 25, G4S Pirates have been boosted by the return three former national players.

Eighth man Moses Soita, a former Rugby Cranes team captain in 2009-2010, scrum half Philip Karumuna and flanker Arnold Nyawanga are eager to lift the side this season.

“They have been training with other players and this is a great boost in terms of the experience they have,” acting team manager Fred Kumakech said yesterday.

“These are important players and I am confident that if coaches make good use of them, we will no doubt be title contenders this season.”

Pirates turned to the trio after failing to secure success.

In two past seasons, the club recruited heavily from Kenya clubs. Last year, Pirates signed internationals including Nick Lango, Kelvin Omiyo, Lawrence Buyachi and Calvin Otieno.

The club put up a good fight before losing to Heathens 20-9 in the Uganda Cup semi-final.

Pirates’ senior players including team captain Joel Anguyo and Dennis Etucket welcomed the three players back in the team.
