President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has blasted some Resident District Commissioners (RDCs) for not taking advantage of the numerous radio stations in the country to sensitise the public on government programmes which have benefited the people.

Museveni made the remarks while meeting a delegation of leaders from Kanungu district at his country home in Rwakitura on Wednesday.
The President had reportedly called them to explain why the police had detained their MP (Chris Baryomunsi) and also to explain the progress of several programs in the country and in Kanungu in particular.

The delegation included the Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi who is also the MP Kinkiizi West. Dr Chris Baryomunsi of Kinkiizi East and Elizabeth Karungi the Woman MP and the district Chairperson Josephine Kasya who led about 70 councilors, religious leaders and opinion people.

An inside source who attended the meeting told the New Vision that although the chairperson Josephine Kasya presented a memorandum to the President, it was put aside and the President concentrated on how some people within the ruling National Resistance Movement have gone astray.

He however said that most of the issues that people take to him could better be explained by the RDCs because as the President's representatives they are empowered to explain the issues.

"Some RDC are living in a slumber and have not taken advantage of the many radios to inform the masses on what the government has done and when the district delegations come here I have to be the one to explain them," He is reported to have said.

The President who had a meeting with the Kanungu delegation for close to 5 hours in which he took his time to sound a warning to unprincipled politicians who have taken it upon themselves to misinform the people who later turn to riots where life and property have been lost.

The President who later addresses a press conference at Rwakitura attended by journalists from Western Uganda said that the NRM party has a system of weeding out unruly politicians from the party and he warned that those who have failed to toe the party line will be sieved out.

He asked media practitioners not to give such misguided politicians airtime to give misleading information to the people and instead RDCs should be invited to explain to the masses what the government has done.

He stressed that Uganda will continue to thrive on 4 developmental pillars of Unity, Pan African-ism, Modernisation and participatory democracy. He said that the UPDF has been successful in Somalia largely because it pursued the principle of Pan African-ism which has won them supporters to flush out the al Shabab terrorists.
