Rwenzururu Kingdom attorney general Chan Geoffrey Masereka has resigned, barely a week after the kingdom’s minister for special duties, Erisania Isingoma, was sacked.

He wrote a resignation letter dated January 8 addressed to His Majesty the King of Rwenzururu, Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere Iremangoma.

He wrote: “Following my increased work schedule and load, I find it appropriate to request your office to grant my resignation as a minister in your cabinet.”

But before Masereka – who runs a private law firm in Kasese town – tendered in his resignation letter, he had disclosed that he had not been consulted as the justice minister before the king sacked Isingoma.

“It was wrong for the king to sack a minister without my knowledge and legal advice as justice minister,” Masereka said from his office, off Dr. Henry Bwambale Road, near Mawa Market.

Isingoma was last week sacked by the king for allegedly swindling over sh30m, which was reportedly a donation from State House.

The money was part of the over sh50m released by State House to enable King Mumbere to travel to South Africa for treatment.
