The boyfriend of the late Butaleja woman MP Adam Suleiman Kalungi on Monday pleaded guilty to a charge of manslaughter preferred against him by the state.

When Kalungi appeared before Makindye Court Chief Magistrate Esta Nambayo , the clerk read out the charge to him stating; "You , Adam Kalungi Sulaiman alias Luli   together  with  Ali Omar Alimuzahim, Khan Babu Abdul, Noor Abubakar, Abid Rashied Butt   and Fatuma Babu  on December 14, 2012 at Buziga Makindye  division in  the Kampala district unlawfully caused the death of Hon . Cerinah Nebanda contrary to section 187 and 190 of the penal code."

He was asked by the magistrate whether what was read out to him was true, to which he instantly responded; "It is true."

However,  the magistrate did not make any further ruling  on the matter instead adjourned the case to today Tuesday to enable Sulaiman get a lawyer to represent him.

Under the Penal Code, any person who is found guilty of the offence of manslaughter is liable to 20 years imprisonment. Manslaughter is killing someone unintentionally.

Kalungi is also facing other charges of being in possession of narcotic drugs, supplying and dispensing of restricted drug contrary to National Drug Policy Authority Act.

Kalungi co-accused Ali Omar Alimuzahim, Khan Babu Abdul, Noor Abubakar, Abid Rashied Butt and Fatuma who are also facing charges of unlawful possession of narcotic drugs were charged on December 30, 2012 and remanded in Luzira prison until January15 when they will re-appear in court.

Kalungi the lover of former Butaleja MP Nebanda was arrested on Thursday last week.

He was tracked down in Kenyan port city of Mombasa by a four -man team from the Police's Violent Crime Intelligence and Operation(VCIOU) working in collaboration  with the Kenyan police.

He was later handed over to Ugandan authorities.

In an interview on Saturday Kalungi said he and the late Nebanda spent a night together on December13, last year.  He said the legislature consumed cocaine so as to gain courage to air out her views in parliament.

Nebanda, 24, passed away on December 14, last year at Mukwaya General Clinic shortly after Kalungi and his friend dropped her at the clinic before they fled.

A government forensic report linked Nebanda's death to cocaine and heroin a report which a number of MPs have disputed.
