Lwemiyaga County MP Theodore Ssekikuubo has been arrested. The Legislator was picked on Monday night from a fuel filling station in the city along Bombo road.

Sources Tuesday morning said the vocal NRM MP was arrested in connection with an old incident in which he allegedly assaulted a policeman in Ssembabule district during the hotly contested NRM primaries.

By press time it was not possible to get official comment on the matter. “I am in a meeting. I will get back to you later,” deputy police spokesperson Vincent Ssekate said. However, other police sources confirmed the arrest.

“His (Ssekikubo’s) arrest is in connection with an old case of assault,” a source said. However, sources said the MP was arrested after apparently being trailed.

Eyewitnesses say the legislator was picked close to 10:00pm from City Oil fuel station.

He had gone to refuel his car when plain clothes operatives pulled up in a Toyota Premio and tried to arrest him but the MP, who was in the company of other people resisted, sparking off a fracas.

It is then that the operatives made phone calls and a police patrol truck immediately arrived at the scene.  The MP was then bundled on the truck which sped off.

The MP is reportedly being held at Kira division police station.

MPs Dr. Medard Bitekyerezo, Barnabus Tinkasimire, Latif Ssebaggala, Abdul Katuntu and Mohammed Nsereko  have reportedly camped at the police station to find out the case for Sekikuubo’s arrest.

In August 2010, during the chaotic NRM party district elections, Ssekikubo allegedly shot Lt. Habib Nsamba in the stomach as he reportedly tried to disarm him in Sembabule and also dismantled election materials at the district playground.

The MP was until recently among five legislators wanted by police over their alleged utterances in connection with death of former Butaleja Woman MP Cerinah Nebanda

The other MPs are Dr. Sam Lyomoki (workers MP), Emmanuel Dombo (Bunyole) and Betty Nambooze (Mukono municipality) and Mbarara Municipality MP Dr. Medard Bitekyerezo, who last week presented himself to the police.

The other MPs have not yet presented themselves to police. Nebanda died on December 14, sparking off controversy.
