The Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese, Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, has attacked Christians who marry purposely to obtain certificates to enable them go abroad for odd jobs.
“Some Christians have turned the Sacrament of Matrimony into something meaningless. They go to church and marry for convenience, with a sole purpose of using it as a means of going abroad where they expect to get odd jobs (okukuba ekyeyo). It is wrong for a Christian to marry for convenience, because the Sacrament of Matrimony was not meant for that,” Lwanga stressed.
Lwanga also attacked Ugandans who recruit fellow countrymen under the guise of getting them lucrative jobs abroad, when in actual truth they are selling them into prostitution and other forms of labour for their personal gain.

In his homily at the Uganda Martyrs Shrine, Namugongo, during an annual holy mass particularly for the married couples in the Archdiocese, Lwanga reminded them that Christian marriage is for life and not for convenience.
He also urged the married to respect one another in public and endeavour to educate their children in a proper way so that they also become good citizens of this country.
“Our families are the foundation of the Catholic Church and they are the pre-schools of this nation. Any mischief in the family affects the children of this nation,” Lwanga warned.
Lwanga urged marriage couples to follow in the footsteps of the holy family of Joseph, Mary and Jesus, emphasizing that “homes are strengthened faith in one another”. Men, as head of the family should lead the propagation of faith among the children and urged them to lead by excellent conduct in front of them.
