Buhweju district Woman MP Joy Karisa Arinaitwe has scoffed at her fellow legislators who are collecting signatures to recall the Ninth Parliament from recess.
Karisa said during a press briefing at her home in Kyanshenyi village, Butare sub-county in Buhweju district. She said she cannot support the move because recalling the House is a waste of time.
Karisa instead said MPs should allow investigations into Nebanda’s death to go on without interruption. She said they should use the break to attend to development issues in their constituencies.
The aim of the recall is to discuss the arrest of some MPs in connection with the comments they made about the death of Butaleja district Woman MP Cerinah Nebanda.
Gerald Karuhanga (Western region Youth MP) and Vincent Kyamadidi (Rwampara County MP) last week started collecting signatures from fellow legislators in the western region following the arrest of Dr. Chris Baryomunsi (Kinkizi East MP) and Muhammad Nsereko (Kampala Central MP).
Other MPs wanted by the Police over allegations of uttering statements in relation to the cause of Nebanda’s death are Dr. Samuel Lyomoki (Workers) Dr. Medard Bitekyerezo (Mbarara Municipality), Theodore Ssekikubo (Lwemiyaga) and Betty Nambooze (Mukono Municipality).
President Yoweri Museveni had earlier at a press conference rubbished allegations that the Government had been involved in the death of Nebanda.
He said those making such insinuations would be arrested and asked to explain more.
Karisa, who has just returned from India, where she had gone for treatment, said she would continue with her development projects of tree and coffee planting in Buhweju.
She wants every household to plant 100 trees and 100 coffee seedlings to improve incomes.
John Bosco Karisa, the husband of the legislator and the Buhweju Youth Network patron, urged the youth to embrace development projects, have love for their district and come back to invest in Buhweju after their education.
Sebastian Kerere, the district chairperson, urged the residents to start commercial enterprises and pay dues to support the district’s development programmes.
