Sixty-three huts in Pabbo sub-county in Amuru district were set ablaze in a revenge attack following the beating to death of a 28-year-old video hall proprietor, David Openy.

The Police, including the regional police surgeon Charles Madrama and the CID, Stanley Owor visited the scene at Okalocwan village, Labala parish.

They implored Openy’s relatives to be calm. At least 200 bags of rice and beans belonging to relatives of Robert Omona and Tycoon Opoka, who allegedly committed the crime, are said to have been destroyed in the fire.

According to Christopher Ojera, the LC3 chairman, the members of Palwong and Pakedo clans, to which Omona and Opoka belong, abandoned their homes when they were attacked by their neighbours, the Pakuma clan members for allegedly killing their person. The incident took place between 3:00 and 4:00am on Wednesday.

It is reported that Omona first attacked Openy who was opening the door to his house at about 3:00am to start a video show. Later, he called Opoka who hit Openy with a club and he died instanly. Ojera said Openy and Omona were wooing the same girl besides other disputes.

Omona handed himself to the Police at Lamogi post while Opoka is still in hiding.  Jacinto Ovuru, the DPC of Amuru, said Omona and Opoka will be charged with murder while those who torched the huts face charges of arson once arrested and investigations are carried out.
