VICTORIA University has signed a memorandum of understanding with Grameen Foundation¬-USA (GFUSA) to advance their students’ careers after and before graduating.

The organisation also intends to retain some of the successful students after the comprehensive training.

The agreement was signed by the deputy and acting vice chancellor of the university Dr. David Young and GFUSA’s country director Sean Krepp at the university offices in Kampala last week.

Young said the move is aimed at equipping graduates with realistic knowledge in line with their careers, to compete favourably in the job market after studies.

The strategy is aimed at exposing graduates to the practical part of their studies, to become job creators after graduating.

“We focus on meaningful and competent workers and job creators. That is why we encourage critical thinking among our students. We are an employment creating university,” he said.

Young added that this is the first signed partnership, but are already in discussions with other established leading Ugandan organisations, to arrange more internship for their students.

Krepp noted that they have a wide range of internship opportunities in marketing and communications, Information Technology and finance.

Grameen Foundation is non-profit organisation, with a charitable mission to fight poverty among the poorest people, especially women through provision of financial services.
