Schools have welcomed the Uganda National Examinations Board’s (UNEB) decision to reset the Islamic Religious Education exam that was mixed up last week.

The examinations body on Mondy said the paper will be redone on November 21.

Moses Ali Ssenyonga, the headmaster of Hassan Turabi Secondary School in Bweyogerere, said: “It was unfortunate but we shall not crucify UNEB. We had envisaged that and advised our 93 students affected by the mishap to keep their books instead of throwing them away.”

Kibuli Secondary School the headteacher Ibrahim Matovu said: “It is okay in the circumstances. The students have to adjust.”

The S.4 candidates were last week subjected to questions outside the Islam Religious Education Paper 225/1 in the ongoing Uganda Certificate of Education exams. The questions in sections B and C in the exam were not from the syllabus.

In a statement yesterday, UNEB spokesperson Hamis Kaheru (inset) admitted that the exam contained sections which were outside the syllabus and promised a fresh exam. He said the candidates cannot be graded fairly basing on what they were able to write down.
