Education minister, Jessica Alupo has assured students of Kyambogo University that the institution will not be closed again in the wake of a row by the university’s top managers.

The students wanted the minister to re-assure them that the return of the vice-chancellor, Prof. Isaiah Ndiege from his forced leave next month, would not lead to another strike by the academic staff.

“I assure you Kyambogo University will not be closed again because you lost a lot of time and incurred unnecessary expenses,” Alupo said.

Alupo made the remarks on Monday at the university during a meeting with the students’ representatives to collect views on the running of the university.

The students complained about the inadequate sitting facilities in lecture rooms, low faculty allowances and inadequate equipment for the science and ICT labs.

Other complaints were the delays in releasing semester results, lack of supporting facilities for students with disabilities and poor sanitary facilities.
