Business at several theaters at Mulago Hospital has resumed after a fresh supply of liquid oxygen was delivered from Kenya on Wednesday.

The adminstration said the hospital pipes had been empty for about a week.

Some patients said they were due for surgery but had been referred to another date due to lack of liquid oxygen.

Liquid oxygen is automatically pumped to the wards and theaters through pipes. In case of shortage, the hospital has a manual backup system which uses cylinders.

The hospital uses 10 cubic meters per day.

The executive director, Dr. Baterana Byarugaba, recently said there are plans to set up an oxygen plant estimated at sh4.5b.
