Police have arrested two men who reportedly attacked Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Julius Shalita damaging his right ear.

The suspects, Moses Magembe and one still unidentified, were arrested on Saturday and detained at Kabalagala Police station after they reportedly hit Shalita with a blunt object.

Police deputy spokesperson Vincent Ssekate confirmed the attack and said the two men hit Shalita when he tried to intervene and help an unidentified woman they were beating up.

Shalita was at his wife’s shop in Ave Maria, Nsambya.

“The men tried to push a lady into the road. As a Police officer, the AIGP got concerned and tried to intervene. The two gentlemen did not respond but carried her to the veranda of his shop,” Ssekatte narrated.

“In the process, one picked a blunt object and hit him, damaging his ear. They tried to run but the local residents quickly identified them and they were arrested,” Ssekate added. Shalita is currently at his home receiving treatment.
