The Police are holding two more people in connection to the altering and forging students’ results at Makerere University. This brings the number of suspects to four.

The Police said the two new suspects, identified as Eddy Kabagambe and Doreen Ade, were allegedly mediators between students and the two systems administrators who were arrested on Monday.

The two university systems administrators who were arrested from the academic registrar’s office were identified as Denis Mbabazi and Christopher Mayanja.

Police deputy spokesperson Vincent Ssekatte said: “These two — Kabagambe and Ade — were working as agents for the systems administrators to look for interested students. Their clients were students who had failed examinations whom they would promise a quick solution to retakes.”

Ssekatte added that the suspects would allegedly collect money from the students and reportedly deliver it to the systems administrators for them to alter or forge results.

The Police began sifting through academic records at Makerere University amidst reports that some staff members were involved in altering and forging students’ results.

This followed a complaint filed at the Makerere University Police Post by the College of Business and Management Science where most of the students’ results were allegedly altered.

According to Police sources, 400 students are suspected to have been affected by the exercise.

The deputy university spokesperson, Marion Alina, said they are working with the Police to investigate the matter.

“Internal investigations are already going on with help of the Police. The suspects are still under interrogation at the Criminal Investigation Intelligence Department headquarters. Right now we cannot ascertain the exact number of the students affected,” she said.
