When Ugandans heard that civil servants’ salaries would be delayed due to the shake-up in the Ministry of Public Service, MPs did not expect to be caught up in the mess.
But when they checked their bank balances at the beginning of the month, they were shocked to find that their salaries were not there. As a result some of them threatened to boycott the Golden Jubilee celebrations.
Sources in Parliament say that it took the intervention of the Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, who had to employ her persuasive and diplomatic skills to convince MPs to attend the celebrations.
She promised that their salaries would be in their accounts soon.
