Police shoot one person dead as two vehicles – one belonging to musician Stecia Mayanja – are burned to ashes by angry fans at a botched concert on Sunday.

An angry mob at Katosi landing site in Ntenjeru sub-county, Mukono district attacked popular local musicians Stecia Mayanja and Charles Ssekyewa accusing them of taking their money and refusing to perform.

Mayanja belongs to Eagles production, one of the oldest in the Ugandan music industry.

The duo reportedly declined to perform at the concert at Victoria Gardens, saying they had not received full payment from the promoters of the show.

The disappointed mob then displayed their anger by burning two of their vehicles – a UAR 841A and the other a Toyota Canter – to ashes.

The two musicians were said to be in the vehicles at the time of the attack but immediately managed to escape from the mob.

The officer in charge of Katosi Police station Daniel Mugisha said Mayanja was saved by some of her fans.

During the scuffle, a police officer known as Hassan Maluti reportedly shot and killed a man later identified as Paddy Ssenabulya.

“Police have arrested Maluti, the policeman who is alleged to have shot dead Ssenabulya but investigations are still going on,” Mugisha said.

Ben Ssebaggala, the manager of Victoria gardens told New Vision that the mob destroyed crates of beer, chairs, mattresses and beds plus music equipment.
