As Uganda marks 50 years of independence, the education ministry has organised a series of activities, including a music, dance and drama festival and a gala for school patriotic clubs that will attract 1,600 school children from 32 schools across the country.

According to a statement from the ministry, the commemorative activities include a four-day music and drama festival at the National Theatre in Kampala and patriotism gala scheduled for October 8, at Old Kampala Secondary School.

The jubilee will run under the theme: 50-years’ Journey since Independence (1962 – 2012): A Good Foundation for Social and Economic Transformation, while the music festival and patriotism gala will be under the theme, Role of Patriotism in Socio- Economic Transformation.
