High Court judge, Justice Jane Kiggundu today delivers judgment in a case in which former Trade Union leader Apollo Nyangasi is facing charges of murdering his wife.

Nyangasi is alleged to have committed the offence on July 24, 2010 at Kireka B Zone in Kira Town Council, Wakiso district, with malice aforethought.

The former chairman of the Uganda Health and Allied Workers Union allegedly beat 40-year-old Christine Dambio at their home in Kireka.

They had been married for 15 years.

His wife was found unconscious in the bathroom and rushed to Mulago Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The summary of evidence shows that Nyangasi brutally murdered his wife at their matrimonial home.

The accused was charged with the murder on July 29, 2010 and has since been on remand at Luzira Prison.

If convicted, Nyangasi would face the death sentence.

Nyangasi was a pharmacist at Soroti Hospital and the national coordinator of the Health Workforce Advocacy Forum of Uganda, a coalition of health professional associations, trade unions and health rights organisations.
