Workers’ MP Rwakajara Arinaitwe has called on the Government to speed up the process of making a law that will liberalise the workers’ pension scheme to allow other operators in the industry.

Rwakajara also wants workers members of the committee of the Retirement Benefits Authority, to voice the interests of the workers.

He pointed out that the finance ministry recently constituted a taskforce to liberalise the pension scheme, but it has delayed, saying it gives room for the monopolists to use the contributors’ funds without authority.

“RBA is composed of business people, who care for their own interests, but not the workers. When the contributors requested workers to be represented on the National Social Security Fund, board (NSSF), workers interests were provided for,” he said.

In a press briefing at Parliament , Rwakajara said,” The monopoly the Government entrusted with NSSF to manage the workers savings, gives room for corruption and embezzlement of the public funds.”
