A handful of MPs have expressed desire to meet Parliament Speaker Rebecca Kadaga to seek permission to move a motion for the reinstatement of term limits.

Addressing a press conference at Parliament on Monday, the MPs who include Godfrey Kiwanda (NRM), Okot Ogong (NRM), Theodore Ssekikubo (NRM), Wilfred Niwagaba (NRM) and Gerald Karuhanga “apologised” for the Seventh Parliament’s lifting of presidential term limits.

“We have discovered that given current agitations for restoration of term limits, we cannot sit back but seek leave of the Speaker to table the motion to reinstate them,’’ Kiwanda, also the Buganda Caucus chairman, said.

“We apologise as members of the Seventh Parliament for the removal of term limits. Maybe it was on the spur of the moment,” Kiwanda said.

However, some officials spoken to dismissed the five as “charlatans” seeking cheap popularity.
