Dr Love: Hilary Bainemigisha

I guess you have less reasonable doubt that you will still be alive come October 9, our Jubilee Independence Day. Unless you travel by these speeding buses, bodabodas or you are a Muslim businessman, then, we wish you luck wherever you will be.

For those who intend to be alive that long, and have a lover to your name, I have an idea for you. When Uganda is hyping the 50 years anniversary, what have you prepared for your relationship? I do not mean the Tuesday October 9 proggie, silly. I mean you taking advantage of events to score another goal for your love.

Between me and you, away from the media and PR, we know there is nothing to celebrate for our 50 years. We probably are not where we should be and labelling it a 50-year-old disappointment is not such a sinful proposal.

But, if we did not think hard to hype out some of the innocent days into unique reasons for us to celebrate life – and particularly love – life would be such a monotonous bore. So, when Vision Group started the countdown to the Independence Jubilee, we wanted to raise enough dust to give us something to look forward to.

As people celebrate whatever it is they want to associate with the Jubilee, what are you planning for your love relationship? Heck, I have an idea: Do something that will enable you to etch yourself onto Beloved’s memory cells? In future, every time someone mentions ‘Uganda at 50’, Beloved will remember that memorable gift, outing, surprise or package you gave. And it is not a bad idea to invest in memories when you are in love.

The returns are long-lasting and permanent.
So, think hard. Look for what Beloved is likely to appreciate most, maybe has never had or experienced or is out of the ordinary. It could be some unique gift of symbolic eminence, it could be a tour of the national park, town or village you have never been to and you are likely not going to forget in a hurry.

And it does not have to involve money if you are broke. You can ask each other to list down the 50 most memorable times you have had together, 50 reasons why you love each other, 50 wishes you  have for the relationship or just 50 words to describe you.

Start now, 50 is a big number, so take your time, do a good job and store away in an envelope which both of you will open together and read in each other’s presence on the very day.

These are just suggestions. If you think I am asking too much, just imagine if I had asked you for 50 rounds of sex! Who said love was a convenient emotion, anyway.

or that matter, go ahead and give your Beloved the most testing 50 related assignment; those who will shy away will give you an idea about the level of their commitment.
I wish you a great Jubilee celebration.
