President Yoweri Museveni will join various other Commonwealth Heads of Government to celebrate the life and reign of Queen Elizabeth by officially launching a diamond Jubilee trustfund in her honour on September 25, 2012 at the Serena Hotel.

In 2011, the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in Perth, Australia announced the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust, aimed at celebrating the Queen’s enormous contribution and unswerving dedication to the Commonwealth over the course of her 60-year reign.

The trust gives governments and citizens across the Commonwealth the opportunity to create a lasting tribute to her majesty the Queen.

The trust will invest in six areas that reflect six decades of the Queens reign including young diamonds (Youth), urban food, disability to capability, heritage and culture, exceptional leaders and care with dignity.

The President this year appointed a Ugandan, Dr. Martin Aliker, as the chairman of the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust — Uganda Chapter to spearhead fundraising activities and create awareness of the trust.

The Diamond Jubilee year held under the theme: A Lasting Tribute for a Lifetime of Giving: Celebrating 60 years. From and for all generations of the Commonwealth family – coincides with Uganda’s Golden jubilee celebrations.

Dr. Aliker said all contributions and donations towards the fund would go a long way in paying tribute through positively changing lives of one of the most remarkable personalities of our time – The Queen.
