Former health state minister Mike Mukula has hired two more senior city lawyers to defend him in a case in which Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI) funds amounting to sh1.6b was mismanaged.

Mukula’s former co - accused Jim Muhwezi and Dr. Alex Kamugisha were acquitted after court ruled that they had no case to answer.

Tibajuka Ateenyi, Fred Muwema and Oscar Kambona will defend Mukula when he starts his defence on November 13.

Ateenyi , who is now the lead counsel Friday told the Anti- Corruption Court Chief Magistrate Irene Akankwasa that he needed  more time to study  the case  since got instructions  a few days ago.

On June 17, court ruled that Mukula has a case to answer  should therefore  defend himself pertaining sh210m that he allegedly received, but  some other witnesses have already told court that Mukula refunded the money long before he was charged.

Victor Amos Acidri from the IGG’s office in his testimony told court  that Sam Bazara, a personal assistant to Mukula  refunded sh210m on behalf Mukula.
