Uganda Manufactures’ Association (UMA) and relevant government ministries should sensitize the masses on the avenues available to access the agricultural credit facilities.

This will enhance society’s development especially in the agro-processing sector, President Yoweri Museveni has said.

“The country as a whole and farmers in particular, are losing a lot of money in exporting unprocessed grain to neighboring countries which fetches less money for both the farmers and the country. People have missed a lot of opportunities. We are just donors to these countries and as such this gives farmers’ sweat less money’’, he said.

The President was Wednesday speaking during a joint meeting of members of the Uganda Manufactures’ Association (UMA), Uganda Chamber of Commerce, Kampala City Traders’ Association (KACITA) along with Bank of Uganda and other government ministries officials at State House, Entebbe.

The deliberations of the meeting focused mainly on ways and means geared towards giving an impetus to efforts involving the enhancement of the agro-processing sector in the country.

The President emphasized the issue of unnecessary encumbrances that bureaucrats offload on wananchi whom they should assist to access low interest financial lending rates on the funds they want to get.

Museveni told the meeting of the high milk production in the country especially in the Ankole sub-region and said the increased milk output was as a result of a deliberate move that he took to boost the dairy farmers by encouraging them to embrace modern practices of commercial farming in order to diversify their capacity in boosting household income earning.

He called on the relevant government ministries to come up with deliberate efforts towards ensuring that agricultural crops that were not doing so well are tackled basing on expert advice so that farmers are enabled to derive more financial gains from their undertakings.
