Ten people have been arrested following a Thursday riot in which Luweero rioting residents blocked the Kampala-Gulu highway, set ablaze a residential house and burnt a Man to ashes.

The rioters also beat another man into comma.

The irate mob had earlier on stormed  Luweero police station in an attempt to grab a murder suspect who was in the police cells , before the police dispersed them with tear gas.

The afternoon riot which brought business to a standstill followed a Tuesday night incident in which unknown thugs hacked to death a boda boda rider.

Boaz Kasule, whose body was recovered from a latrine at Kibikke village near Luweero, was killed by unknown thugs who hired him from Luweero after posing as passengers.

After withdrawing from the police station, the mob cut off a section of the Kampala-Gulu high way by setting fires and placing barricades in the middle of the road, prompting the police to disburse them for the second time with tear gas and gun shots.

Traffic came to a standstill as the police fought running battles with the rioters who pelted the police with stones.

Some of the rioters proceeded to Kasana, a suburb of Luweero town, where they set ablaze a residential house and burnt its owner, whom they accused of conspiracy in the Tuesday murder.

The Luweero District police Commander, Samuel Bamuzibire said those arrested will charged with inciting violence.
