Timber and furniture dealers at Wandegeya Kubili along Bombo Road woke up to bad morning when fire reduced their merchandise to ashes.
Faridah Nakawooya, a resident of Kawempe and a mother of three is a victim of the Monday morning fire.
Nakawooya who sobbed uncontrollably told the New vision that the business was worth sh7m which she had grown for the last 2 years.
“I don’t know what to do because I was running this business on a loan which has to be serviced before mid this year,” she said.
Nakawooya lost refrigerators, sofa sets, dining tables, coffee sets, chairs, chair clothes and a sewing machine.
Lawrence Aduku a proprietor of Mak-kiteko enterprises who operated the same place since 1988, lost four processing machines each worth sh5m and furniture of over sh50m.
Zarikah Nakito, 28, said that all her money perished in the fire.
“I am still confused on what will follow after this, I don’t even know what to say,” she said with an expression of utter shock.
She explained that she lost seven dinning sets worth sh17m, 3 coffee sets worth 2.5m, 6 sofa sets worth 3m , timber and 5 processing machines each valued at 5 to 6m and cash worth 11m which he had got from the bank last Friday.
There must have been a planned move by some selfish individuals, because most of us who are close to the workshop, our doors were locked from outside, they were trying to stop us from responding immediately,” Nantongo said.
Hajjat Isa Nannonno a widow had her business for over 8 years, while fighting to contain tears; Nannonno said her business has been everything to her.
“Ever since I lost my husband, this is where I have been getting income to look after my 6 children and two other dependents,” Nannonno explained.
