NAKAWA Chief Magistrate’s Court has adjourned a case in which three Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) officials and others are charged with treason in connection with walk-to-work protests.
The chief magistrate, Esta Nambayo heard that the case file involving the accused officials was still before the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) finalizing investigations and gathering evidence, according to the state attorney, Beatrice Odongo.
Nambayo adjourned the case to March 12, 2012 for hearing.
The three including Ingrid Turinawe (FDC women league leader), Francis Mwijukye (leader of FDC youth), Sam Mugumya (FDC president Col Kizza Besigye’s aide) and four others appeared before court for mention of their case.
They were arrested last year for planning walk-to-work protests allegedly intending to overthrow government.
Ernest Kalibbala, the lawyer of the accused said the state had been accorded enough time to conclude its investigations, stressing that the case should be thrown out if the state has no evidence.
One of the accused, Turinawe alleged that what was going on is political persecution because the state has evidence.
