THE Kobs versus Pirates Nile Special rugby league game lived to its billing with the host emerging 21-12 victors.

Referee Muhamad Muhame sin-binned Pirates’ Timothy Ddumba in the 27th minute and later Kobs’ Victor Wadia before sending off Timothy Kabonero for slapping Ivan Magomu as tempers flared in the game.

The young stars continued dominating this year’s League with Scrum half Kevin Makmot scoring seven penalties to hand Kobs a21-12 win without a try and earning himself the man of the match medal.

Ivan Magomu gave Pirates a 3-0 lead in the first minute of the game but Kobs replied the same way after three minutes through   Kevin Makmot to level 3 all before adding another three to give Kobs a12-8 half time lead.

With tempers brewing Kobs’ Steven Ogwete punched Leslie Ochieng, but walked a free man of referee Muhammad left it to go because six senior players including Brian Odong Timothy were involved in the scuffle.

In the second half, Pirates regrouped mounting pressure Makmot added more two penalties to stretch lead to 18-8.

Magomu then scored a try to close the gap 18-12 but Makmot added another penalty to seal the score 21-12.

It was a good game we just lost patience and coordination then the game slipped out of our favour,” Pirates’ coach Godwin Kayangwe stated.

In the Entebbe Heathens found no difficulty as they demolished hosts mongers 37-7. Jude Keremundu scored two tries, while scot Oluoch, Richard Barigye and Asuman Mugerwa managed one each to earn the defending champions a bonus point.

“I’m impressed we played as a team but honestly we still have some departments to improve on,” Coach Brian Tabaruka stated.

At Kampala rugby club, Rhinos received their first win of the season whipping Jinja based Nile RFC 59-0.

James Musitwa scored four tries, while Paul Emeru, Andrew Omoding, Herbert Mukama, and Ricky Kawesa added one each. The league continues in various grounds next weekend.
