DRIVERS should take a sigh of relief after the challenge of a night competitive section was struck off the route in the Pine Ridge Mbarara Rally scheduled for February 25-26.

Event manager Hamid Gombe explained that drivers had been spared the night race because of the 120-km non-competitive section from Masaka, where the super special stage will be held.

The night stop is set for Mbarara.

“Competitors who went route reccing in Mbarara and Masaka were advised to not bother driving through the route at night. The route is very fast and dusty, they will enjoy the race,” Gombe stated.

The 46.3-km Kyeibega-Biharwe section that was supposed to be tackled at night will instead be the last section in the second leg on February 26.

Charles Muhangi (Subaru N12), Mikadadi Katongole (Subaru N4), Godfrey Lubega (Subaru N8), Vik Singh (Subaru N10), Yasin Mukasa (Toyota Levin), Yasin Kawooya (Subaru N4), Kakuule Sembera (Subaru N4), George Richard (Mitsubishi Evo9), Wycliff Bukenya (Mitsubishi Evo9) and Nasser Mutebi (Subaru N8) have so far entered the opening round of the 2012 National Rally Championship.
