Following President Museveni's speech in Parliament on Friday, a cross-section of MPs shared their reactions on the speech, in which the oil and energy sector featured prominently.

    David Bahati (NRM) Ndorwa North
This is the best speech the President has given on energy. He mentioned the country’s share from the oil resource and what the oil companies will get.

    Mohammed Nsereko
Let us give the President time to deliver what he has promised. Time does not lie, it will prove him right or wrong.

    Nabilah Naggayi (FDC) Woman, Kampala
I walked out when he arrived. I wanted to show him that I would never be part of a Parliament that is a rubber stamp to his wrong deeds. He went ahead and signed oil agreements, which Parliament had blocked. It was illegal and uncalled for.

    Robert Migadde (NRM) Buvuma
The President didn’t say anything new. He told us what we already knew about oil. We had heard that he signed the new oil agreement which Parliament blocked and we expected him to tell us whether it was right or wrong. He didn’t say so we left the way we went in.

Ibrahim Semujju Nganda (FDC) MP Kyadondo East
I didn’t attend because he doesn’t respect us. Parliament passed resolutions stopping the signing of oil agreements and he violated them. So why should I listen to someone who undermines me?

Rev. Peter Bakaluba Mukasa (NRM) Mukono North
Sorry I didn’t attend we were in Jinja for the by-election so I am just returning to Mukono. I don’t really know what had transpired in Parliament today.

    Ronald Kibuule (NRM) Mukono North
The President spoke the truth about oil and people who think he has personal interests in the sector are wrong. Why didn’t he mine the oil in 1986 when very few people knew about it? Those who have decided not to attend the session have lost and they will not come back to Parliament next term because they are not representing their people. The electorates in their constituencies will ask them questions about oil and they will not be able to answer them. As a result, they will be discarded.
