The First Lady of Rwanda, Janet Kagame has given $10,000 (about sh23.2m) towards the promotion of culture between Uganda and Rwanda.
Janet Kagame was prompted to give the donation after visiting Igongo Cultural Centre in Mbarara district last year and was impressed by the work the Centre does in promoting cultural values.
The Rwanda High Commissioner, Maj.Gen Frank Mugambage handed over the cheque to the executive director of Igongo Cultural Centre, James Tumusiime, during a handover ceremony on Wednesday in Kampala.
“The First Lady was highly impressed by what the Centre does in contributing to cultural values of humanity,” Mugambage said.
He said the contribution was also meant to inspire others in making the cultures of the two countries known.
Tumusiime said the contribution will strengthen the relationship between the two countries in exchange of cultural values.
He said the Centre will send local crafts makers and local artiste to Rwanda to expose Ugandan culture in the aspects of crafts and music.
Tumusiime said the exchange of culture will also help to promote political integration, education and vibrant economies between the two countries and in the East African region at large.
