Opposition pressure group, the activists for change (A4C) has saluted army officers who have lived by the oath of serving the nation as the UPDF marks Terehe sita day.
UPDF marks today marks its 31st anniversary with celebrations taking place in Kasese district. President Yoweri Museveni has, the commander-in-chief of Ugandan armed forces presided over the celebrations where over 100 people have received medals in recognition of their services for the force.
Addressing a news conference Monday at Katonga road, in Kampala, Mathias Mpuuga the A4C coordinator said, “Army uniforms should not be for pride or torture but for good service,” Mpuuga said.
Mpuuga said soldiers like any other Ugandan; the army should care and fill the pain caused by the lost country’s glory which has led to dire poverty, graft and suppression of the opposition among other issues.
He said party presidents who form the Inter Party Coalition (IPC) agreed last week during the opposition retreat in Jinja, to join the A4C activities aimed at liberating the country.
“It is the corruption, theft, graft and tyranny we want to bring to an end that’s why we are joining hands,” Mpuuga added.
Speaking at the same briefing Kyadondo County East MP Semujju Nganda said they will organize more rallies this month.
Rallies will be held in Bulenga, Mityana, Mukono, Katwe, Namasuba, Mubende, Kalerwe, Luwero and Gayaza trading centers a mega rally at the Kololo airstrip.
“We have sent notifications to police and we do not expect them to disrupt our rallies or spray tear gas to us,” Ssemujju said.
