Bamwenda said spies throw stones at the Police during rallies.

     By Vision Reporters

The opposition has been infiltrated by agents of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has said.

The leading opposition party, FDC, said there are three categories of NRM spies who had infiltrated political parties.

FDC deputy spokesperson Toterebuka Bamwenda and the party’s deputy defence secretary, Salim Angoliga, made the remarks while addressing journalists at the FDC headquarters in Najjanankumbi.

Bamwenda said the groups of the plain-clothes spies include those who have been attending the Activists For Change (A4C) rallies to incite the opposition to violence.

He said these spies throw stones at the Police during rallies and at times provoke the opposition supporters into attacking security operatives.

Bamwenda said the party suspects foul play in an accident that involved Kampala Woman MP Nabilah Sempala and a Police car last week.

Sempala, who sustained injuries, was discharged from hospital on Sunday.

The accident occurred while Sempala was travelling to the city after a rally organised by A4C at Wankulukuku playground in Rubaga division, while the Police was following Besigye’s procession. Besigye also attended the rally.

Angoliga explained that the second category of spies involves those who besiege the homes of key opposition leaders such as FDC president Dr. Kizza Besigye, Kampala Lord mayor Erias Lukwago, Sempala and FDC women league leader Ingrid Turinawe.

He said the other group of spies are some security operatives, who want to serve personal interests at the expense of the Government.

This group, whom Angoliga said is interested in taking over the Government from President Yoweri Museveni, wants to harm and assassinate opposition leaders, especially Besigye.

He said this will in turn create a riotous situation that this group will take advantage of to topple Museveni.

However, information minister Mary Karooro dismissed the claims, saying it had become a trademark of the opposition to make wild allegations against the Government and security forces.

She denied reports that some members in the security agencies were planning to assassinate Besigye and use the turbulent situation that would follow to topple President Museveni.

“Let them bring the evidence. That is a serious allegation and they should not hide anything about it,” Karooro said.

On NRM supporters attending opposition rallies, Karooro said they were free to attend the gatherings to listen to their ideas.

She denied that NRM loyalists, who attend such rallies, are planted by the party to cause mayhem.
