Uganda and South Sudan government trade officials are to meet on January 19 to discuss ways in which to better trade relations.

Addressing the ministry of Trade and Industry staff at the Management Training and Advisory Centre (MTAC) Nakawa on Friday, the minister of trade and industry, Amelia Kyambadde said that the two-day meeting would discuss the compensation for Ugandan traders who have suffered and even lost their goods at the hands of brutal South Sudan authorities.

At the meeting, the representatives of the two nations will also discuss better trade rules that will boost elations between the two countries.

“We have a report containing genuine concerns by the traders. We have evidence and for sure the Ugandan traders will be compensated. We want to see that there is smooth trade between the two nations,” Kyambadde said.

Different Ugandan traders have been suffering losses at the hands of gangs in Southern Sudan, including confiscating their goods, burning down their business.

It is reported that South Sudan has set a side $41m(ss33.6bn) as compensation for Ugandan traders.
