Basena's stay as Cranes coach extended

The first FUFA executive committee meeting of Moses Magogo's second term that commenced Tuesday morning in Mengo is expected announce different resolutions concerning the development of the game in the country.

One of those they will be to name the next Uganda Cranes coach.

Sources inside FUFA however have revealed that interim coach Moses Basena will continue in his role until the end of the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers.

Basena had previously been mandated to lead the Cranes to the 2018 CHAN tournament in Kenya which he did after eliminating neighbours Rwanda 3-2 on aggregate and also take charge of Cranes' double header against Egypt.

Cranes beat Egypt 1-0 in the first leg in Kampala before losing the return leg with a similar margin in Alexandria.

Basena who also doubles as coach of UPDF FC will also be in charge of the Cranes when they host Ghana in the World Cup Qualifier on October 7th as well as the away trip to Congo Brazzaville in November.

Thereafter a new coach will be named to lead Cranes in the CHAN tournament as well as the rest of the 2019 AFCON qualifiers.

Basena replaced Micho Sredejovic who terminated his contract with FUFA over failed to clear his outstanding salary arrears for four months.
