Mutungo residents get free healthcare

Suzan Opio, 70, a resident of Kitintale, could not hide her joy after receiving malaria treatment free of charge.

She was among the over 2,000 residents of Mutungo Zone IV on Friday who received free medical treatment as part of the Nakawa division annual health camp.

The residents, who were mostly women, children and youth, were treated for aliments like malaria, hypertension, diabetes, HIV/AIDS and got male circumcision, among other services.

The camp is one of the initiatives of the Nakawa division leadership under Mayor Nsubuga Balimwezo.

During his address to the community, Balimwezo revealed that he came up with the idea of setting up a community health centre for residents after he got involved in an accident in which he lost his right leg.

Nakawa has two health facilities - Naguru-China partnership and Kiswa Health Centre.

The vice-chairperson of the health committee in Parliament, Helen Kahunde, who officiated at the health camp, applauded Balimwezo's efforts.

Kahunde encouraged leaders to emulate Balimwezo, who give back to the communities that elected them into power.

She revealed to residents that government is committed into supporting the private sector, saying that this supplements government effort of ensuring a better health quality services.
