Business is slowing picking up in the eastern border towns of Busia and Malaba in the aftermath of the Kenyan elections.

Yesterday traffic flow into the two nations had greatly improved as compared to the previous day when the drivers who had parked their trucks at the Ugandan side of the border had vowed not to enter into Kenya for fear of being attacked.

Traders New Vision talked to however revealed that most of the drivers are now crossing into Kenya following the assurance of security by Kenyan Police chief, Joseph Boinet, while others are under pressure from the transporters and truck owners to resume work.

A survey conducted on Monday saw people and trucks crossing the border without any interruptions.

Most of the internal container depots visited which were full to capacity during the election season were nearly empty.

However Uganda businessmen at border said they have not yet realized any improvement in business because most Kenyan who are their main clients have been afraid to stock and have not yet resumed normal operations.

Anjella Asiepet a shop owner said sales were still poor including the bars which used to be jammed by Kenyans in evenings.

Bukedi regional Police spokesperson, Sowali Kamulya said the security situation at the border is normal as they have not recorded any incidents.
