Muhoozi extends financial support to chess team

The team will take part in the African Schools Individual Chess Champions in Zimbabwe.

Presidential adviser on special operations, Maj. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has extended financial support to three of Uganda's junior chess players expected to represent the country in the African Schools Individual Chess Champions slated for August 19 in Harare, Zimbabwe.

Kainerugaba gave Kitty Joyce Mary Ndagizimana,6, Patrick Elijah Muwanguzi,9, and Paul Kevin Waswa,11, USD3,700 for airtickets, FIDE fees and registration.

Each player is expected to spend USD600 on return ticket, USD 120 on registration, USD 76 on FIDE fees, USD 25 for the yellow fever card, and USD 100 as trainer's fee.

Ndagizimana who boasts of a silver medal attained at the Premium Juniors Chess tourney held three months ago and a gold medal winner at the recently concluded Decoda Annual Chess Championships shall play in the U-7 category.

Muwanguzi, a silver and bronze medal winner at the Premium Juniors and Decoda Championships respectively will represent the country in the U-9 category.

Wasswa who also won silver and gold in the two local tournaments respectively will battle for the country's pride in the U-12 category.
