The two teams will now face-off in the final to be played at Kyadondo on Friday

Jinja Hippos and Stallions defeated Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) and Gulu Rugby Club respectively to book a place in the playoff final for league promotion.

Jinja whipped MUST 37-12 while Stallions defeated Gulu 25-21 in the regional semi-final.

The two teams will now face-off in the final to be played at Kyadondo on Friday and the winner will be promoted to the Nile Special Premier League that starts in November.

Hippos coach Saidi Atibu said defeating MUST was a sign that his team can make it to the top flight.

"A Jinja club last played in the premiership in 2013 (Nile RFC) and today's victory is a sign that we are on the right track and Jinja can get a representative in the Premier League," Atibu said.

Joe Aliga scored three tries while teammate Maxwell Ebonga added two penalties before John Echweru and Kintu Byaruhanga added a try each.

Brandon Luswata and Cole Karenkona added a try and Owen Atwine added a conversion.

Gulu players attributed the defeat to biased officiation by the referee.

"Yes we lost and concede defeat, but the union should be considerate while appointing referees because giving us a referee who is a coach of the team we are playing is total bias against us," Godi Ongero stated.
